Life on the Road as a Professional Owner Operator

While running freight across the country, Michael makes the most of his time behind the wheel by listening to music, following weather updates, and practicing Spanish between customer calls. To keep life on the road feeling comfortable, he stocks his truck with groceries and uses his Instant Pot and rice cooker to prepare healthy meals during long hauls.

A Standout Oversized Load Haul

One of Michael’s most memorable experiences as a flatbed and oversized load driver was hauling a large load from Cofield to California. It was his first time visiting the Golden State, and DOT had him stopping at every weight station west of Tennessee. The run was long and demanding, but the payoff made it worthwhile and added a major milestone to his driving career.

Family Values and Big Goals for the Future

When Michael is not behind the wheel, he is focused on what matters most, his family. He loves spending time with his wife and their four children and is active in his church and Bible study group. This year, he is working toward two major personal goals: buying a home and starting a garden.

Advice for Fellow Truck Drivers

Michael’s message to other professional truck drivers is simple:
Do not skip the truck wash. Taking care of your equipment is just “soap and water,” and it protects your investment for the long haul.

He also shares one of his favorite motivators:
“Get to getting while the getting is good.”
