Keeping Our Roads Safe: Our Commitment During Operation Safe Driver Week

At TENNESSEE STEEL HAULERS, safety is more than a priority—it’s a core value. That’s why we proudly support Operation Safe Driver JULY 13-19 , a program led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and law enforcement agencies across North America.

What Is Operation Safe Driver?

Operation Safe Driver is a nationwide initiative focused on reducing unsafe driving behaviors among both commercial drivers and passenger vehicle drivers. The program aims to:

  • Educate all drivers on how to safely share the road with large trucks and buses
  • Promote safe driving habits among youth and new drivers
  • Provide awareness and training resources for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers
  • Improve regulatory compliance and reduce crash-related injuries and fatalities

Operation Safe Driver Week: A Focused Effort

Each year, Operation Safe Driver Week brings an intensified focus to these goals through a one-week enforcement and education campaign. During this time, law enforcement officers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico conduct traffic stops and issue citations or warnings for unsafe driving behaviors.

In 2024 alone, over 11,000 vehicles were pulled over, resulting in 2,712 citations and 3,228 warnings. These interactions are proven to influence driver behavior and help make our roads safer for everyone.

Why It Matters

Driver behavior is the leading cause of traffic crashes—accounting for a staggering 94% of all incidents. Whether it’s speeding, distracted driving, or failing to yield, these actions have real consequences. In 2022, traffic crashes claimed over 42,000 lives in the U.S. alone. These numbers are not just statistics—they represent lives lost and families impacted.

Our Role in Road Safety

As a trucking company, we take our role in this initiative seriously. We use Operation Safe Driver Week as an opportunity to:

  • Reinforce safe driving practices with our drivers
  • Share educational materials and safety tips
  • Encourage open conversations about road safety
  • Support law enforcement efforts to hold all drivers accountable

We also make use of the free resources provided by CVSA, including videos, flyers, and public service announcements, to educate both our team and the communities we serve.

Join Us in Making a Difference–

Safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a big rig or a compact car, we all play a part in keeping our roads safe. Let’s work together to reduce crashes, save lives, and make every mile a safe one.
